The Whole Earth Design Project to Become Pathfinder to a Better World

The author of “The Coming Global Coalescence” launches the Whole Earth Design Project to confront global political and economic dysfunction as an engineering and design challenge.

NEW YORK - March 11, 2013 - PRLog -- “We can do much better than this,” declares Walter Szykitka, organizer of the Whole Earth Design Project. “In fact, given the abundance of human and natural resources, combined with our ingenuity and technological advances, we are undoubtedly capable of providing every individual on the planet with all of life’s essentials. This design project intends to show how.”

An unwavering optimist and self-styled evolutionary, Szykitka was inspired during the sixties by the visions of R. Buckminster Fuller, the brilliant futurist whose many designs included the geodesic dome and who understood early on that we are all crew members and passengers alike aboard Spaceship Earth.

One of Fuller’s ideas that resonated with Szykitka was his concept of the World Game: Put all the necessary data into a huge computer, call in the experts, and let them play around with it until they figure out “how to make the world work for all humanity.”

Fuller never got to play that game, but the Whole Earth Design Project is determined to carry the concept forward under circumstances that make that objective more urgent but also more attainable.

What makes it more urgent is that the existing political and financial system is tottering on the brink of total collapse with unpredictable consequences. What makes it more attainable is the democratization and explosive growth of communication technology and its transformative power to facilitate education and organization.

Or as Szykitka puts it, “We will do it because we must. And because we can.”

The search is on for volunteer information gatherers to participate in ten workgroups, each exploring a different one of life’s ten targeted essentials: air, water, food, clothing, and shelter, along with access to communication, information, transportation, health care, and energy.

Volunteers interested in participating are invited to visit the website at http://www.thecoalescence.net (http://www.design.thecoalescence.net), navigate to the Whole Earth Design Project, pick their favorite subject, and join the other members of that workgroup in researching and assembling the pieces of this enormous puzzle. Or if they simply want to follow the project's progress, they can subscribe to the newsletter. Also, they are free to download or read online the book --

Anyone who wants to follow the project’s progress can subscribe to the newsletter at www.thecoalescence.net.  Also, the book that  outlines the principles on which the WEDP is based -- “The Coming Global Coalescence – How Powerful Evolutionary Forces Are Transforming Seven Individual Humans Into a Single Harmonious Social Organism” -- is available to be read online or downloaded.

“It is impossible to underestimate the importance of this moment in the evolutionary history of this plant,” declares Szykitka in his latest book, The Coming Global Coalescence. “Out of the chaos something new is being born. Another way of living and working together. Another way of inhabiting this planet. The times could not be more exciting; the future could not be more promising.”
