Arabic authors Adel Khozam and Dha’en Shaheen also participated in the event. A further 40 authors, including Anthony Horowitz, Tony Buzan and Ian Rankin visited an additional 50 schools in Dubai as part of the Festival’s out-reach programme. Education Day also saw the finals of the Taaleem Poetry Award, the Oxford University Press Story Writing competition and Chevron Readers’ Cup. Yvette Judge Head of Education and Children’s Programming for the LitFest said: “Helping to foster a love of reading and writing is one of the core aims of the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature and Education Day is one of our prime events. Meeting an author can really inspire the students and spark their imagination, and the authors are always thrilled to have the opportunity to impart their passion for the written word.” The Festival which, takes place 5-9 March 2013 and celebrates all aspects of literature, is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in partnership with Emirates airline and the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority.
