With the desire to concentrate on the more important things in life after making it through the GFC, Mandy Bell has decided to step away from selling in store and join the many businesses going online.
'My family has suffered with me through the GFC, watching me stress constantly over money and how to get the business through the tough times, and many would ask, 'why leave now that things are improving for the store?', but I need to free my time for family now, and I already feel this new start has been great for all of us. I can come and go from my studio as I please, and now that my husband works away from home, I don't have to worry about how to be available for the kids if they need me.'
Thus the name 'The Freedom State'. It represents a state of mind, where you are, a place where you go to feel free. And it translates to the niche of the store; an online lifestyle store that is inspired by bohemian creativity and a gypsy attitude of freedom. Customers can find unusual yet on-trend pieces that allow them to express their free spirit through fashion, or their space.
Mandy says; 'There is a huge customer base for this gypsy/boho/beach niche in the United States, but I am lucky enough to be based close to Byron Bay where so many Australian labels based there have a huge following over in the States, such as Spell Designs, and Arnhem the Label and Tallow Gallery which I am proudly stocking. I'm also stocking a labels direct from the USA, and a few smaller, less mass marketed Aussie labels that fit in with the feel of the store. I am just hoping that the Aussie customers share my passion!'
