March 9, 2013 - PRLog -- Men and women interested in an extreme career makeover are invited to apply to the aesthetics program at Olympian University, 6300 San Mateo Blvd in Albuquerque. A new class begins every other month.

In addition to classroom and hands-on training, Olympian University’s Aesthetics Instructor, George Abel Gallegos, arranges for the aesthetics students to provide outreach services at nearby high school charter schools and in the community.

“Many of the graduating students will be in business for themselves so we try to come up with special events that are fun, beneficial to the client, provide additional training for the student and will show our students different ideas that will help them generate business,” said Gallegos. “For instance, for Valentine’s Day we had the students perform chocolate facials. It is more than a tasty gimmick. Chocolate is moisturizing and has anti-oxidants so it’s a perfect treatment.”

Aesthetics students at Olympian University take a 600-hour course so they can provide treatments that improve the beauty and condition of their clients' skin. Students are trained to perform skincare procedures and services, as well as gain the necessary knowledge and background to recommend skincare regimens to help their clients with everything from the management of acne to anti-aging routines. Olympian University’s aesthetics program covers how to perform facials, body wraps, different waxing techniques, basic reflexology, as well as professional makeup application. Students also study anatomy and the chemistry and biology of human skin.  After successfully graduating from their aesthetics training, students are eligible to sit for the state licensing exam.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the profession is growing at a steady rate of 14% and New Mexico is currently one of the top-paying states for licensed estheticians and skincare specialists.

For more information, potential students should call 505-765-1044 and schedule a tour of the award-winning school.
