Mums to be leaving the high street for online shopping

How the decline in high street maternity stores is benefiting the independent online retailers

March 8, 2013 - PRLog -- Many recent surveys  report that as many as 85% of people now shop online. The British high street is getting quieter and quieter as people prefer to shop from the comfort of their own home. The BBC reported recently that an average of 20 shops a day were closed last year by the chain stores.
It comes as no surprise then that pregnant women and women with young children are also opting for online shopping when it comes to maternity, nursing and baby clothes.

Carrying shopping when heavily pregnant or with children in tow can be hard work so mums and mums to be are shopping online instead.  With many high street maternity companies closing stores around the country, mums to be can shop online with a huge choice of maternity and babywear retailers.

Naturally most of the big stores have websites but whereas on the high street they had the monopoly, now they are up against stiff competition from the independent online retailers.

One such retailer is Bunny Bumpkin Maternity, Nursing and Babywear.
Bunny Bumpkin has seen a five fold increase in sales in just two years of trading. Initially selling just maternity and nursing clothes on amazon and ebay, the company has added to its product line with baby wear, teethers, bibs,  potty training products and many other items that mums used to buy on the high street.

The company launched its website www.bunnybumpkin.com  in late 2012 and founder Crysta Burridge has been amazed with the response. “Both sales and traffic to our online shop seem to double every month” reported Crysta.” From our web statistics we see that people like to come into the shop and have a good look around just like they used to on the high street. Some make a purchase, some don’t but many come back a week later and buy what they were previously interested in.”

Mother of two young children herself, Crysta found that there was limited choice on the high street. “Mothercare was the only maternity wear shop where I live and that has since closed.” explained Crysta.

So it seems the closure of the high street stores means exciting times for the many growing independent online retailers and much more choice for expectant mums without the tired and sore feet that the high street used to bring.
