LOCAL ORGANIZATION PROVIDES SOCIAL PLATFORM FOR CHARITABLE GIVING
New Mobile App Allows Users to Donate Meals all over the world from their Favorite
Restaurant
PHOENIX (March. 8th, 2013) – Around the world and right here in our own communities,
there are people who struggle to get a hot meal each day. Mealmatch is a new mobile
charity app that combines social connectivity with charitable giving to help feed the world
one meal at a time.
Compatible with any smartphone, Mealmatch users simply dine at one of the 30+ local,
participating restaurants, check-in by going to mealmatch.org on their phone and the
restaurant donates the cost of meal to one of 15 local and international projects. Users are
able to create a profile, track exactly where each meal is sent, involve their friends and
unlock loyalty rewards at their favorite dining spots.
“The concept is simple: a meal for a meal,” said Dustin Tessendorf, Co-founder “Mealmatch
helps end hunger by doing what people do everyday – eat out. The customer gets to see
exactly where the matched meal is sent around the while the restaurant benefits from
accessing our charity focused user base and social media sharing. The concept is simple but
it's a win for charity, restaurants and customers alike.
Tessendorf and childhood friend Joseph Tuson founded Mealmatch in July 2012 based on a
desire to give back. The business duo designed the concept as a philanthropic social media
company to connect and inform people of the needs around the world. Originally from
South Africa, Tessendorf and Tuson hold a special connection to several of the communities
that are already receiving meals as a result of the partnership between Valley restaurants
and Mealmatch.
“Our goal is to not only provide meals to people who need them, but to do so through long-
lasting projects implemented by excellent local partners in countries where they work,”
said Tessendorf.
Mealmatch works closely with partner organizations that have spent years working
amongst the local culture in the communities that Mealmatch serves. Feeding project
locations are based on an area’s limited access to food, high drought rates, hunger-related
sickness and a track record of exemplary work by local leaders. Each feeding project is
locally run and has spent years working in the field.
