I heard a thousand blended notes,
While in a grove I sate reclined,…
Through primrose tufts, in that green bower,
The periwinkle trailed its wreaths;
And ’tis my faith that every flower
Enjoys the air it breathes.
The birds around me hopped and played,
Their thoughts I cannot measure:—
But the least motion which they made
It seemed a thrill of pleasure.
The ‘Steamers’
This cruise is the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of day to day living and provides the chance to experience one of the most idyllic times of the year around England’s most beautiful lake. We'll show you the daffodils that inspired Wordsworth's famous poem and take you on a tour around a traditional Lakeland farm where you can meet and feed the lambs, as well as getting behind the scenes to find out just how important the farming community is in the area surrounding Ullswater.
Ticket holders will gather at 10am at the Steamers’ Glenridding pier, at the south of the lake, where they will be divided into two groups. The first group will board the lovely Ullswater Steamer, Lady Dorothy, which will depart at 10.30am for a 60 minute cruise in the company of RSPB guides who will provide a wealth of information on the wildlife surrounding the Lake.
On returning to shore, passengers will then be transferred via mini bus to visit the National Trust farm at Glencoyne, to see how the farm operates at lambing time and to meet new-born lambs as well as having the chance to find out about Cumbria’s iconic Herdwick sheep breed and the nature conservation projects carried out on farms throughout the area.
Finally before departing passengers will have the chance to discover the wood where William Wordsworth saw the Lenten Lilies being tossed about in the wind during a walk taken alongside the shore of Ullswater on April 15, 1802, which inspired the world famous poem ‘ Daffodils’.
Meanwhile the other half of the party will have the same experience, but in reverse, starting with the farm trip, the woodland walk and finishing with the lake cruise.
