Spotlights Outstanding Local Teacher and Student for March 2013

Kravis Center Education Programs are Supported by Annual Palm Beach Wine Auction
(West Palm Beach, FL – March 6, 2013) Tracy C. Butler, Director of Education for the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, today announced the Center’s Outstanding Local Teacher and Student for the month of March: Terrion Nelson, Music Educator at Egret Lake Elementary School in West Palm Beach, and Aaliyah Peterman, a fifth grade student at U.S. Kinsey/Palmview Elementary School in West Palm Beach.
Terrion Nelson
An exceptional music educator who has been at Egret Lake Elementary School for the last 18 years, Terrion Nelson currently teaches K-5 music to 29 different classes. Praising her school’s atmosphere and environment “where all students are encouraged to be the best, the brightest and the most beautiful,” Ms. Nelson says she is “glad to be teaching at an Arts Integrated School, where the arts are infused across the curriculum to educate the whole child. When children are afforded the opportunity to learn through the arts as well as study the diverse cultures that make up our world, they are better equipped to feel and be successful, and they become tolerant, productive citizens.”
For a number of years now, the Kravis Center has partnered with Ms. Nelson to coordinate professional development through the arts for classroom teachers at her school. “She has recommended students for both our Spotlight on Young Musicians concert and our ArtsCamp program, and several of her students are participating in our new De George Academy,” says Ms. Butler. “Terrion Nelson also serves as the Kravis Arts Ambassador at her school and coordinates the Kravis-On-The-

A 5th grader at U. B. Kinsey/Palmview Elementary School, Aaliyah Peterman lives in Lake Worth and also studies dance. “She has participated in many Kravis Center educational programs and is always a delight,” says Tracy Butler. “Aaliyah has a positive outlook, works very hard and obviously enjoys performing. She’s also a quick study when it comes to learning new choreography.”
“At my school, I study theatre and art, and I’m interested in learning more about theatre and dance history and becoming a professional dancer/actress,”

“After 20 productive years of Kravis Center arts educational programming, we are proud to spotlight the motivated teachers and dedicated students who have contributed to our success,” said Ms. Butler. “Our Outstanding Teacher and Student of the month will each receive two free tickets to an upcoming performance of their choice at the Kravis Center.”
