LEGENDARY DOORS GUITARIST ROBBY KRIEGER TO PERFORM AT FUNDRAISER FOR THE ROCK SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Scholarships to benefit youth in after school programs

LOS ANGELES, CA  (March 7, 2013) – Legendary Doors guitarist Robby Krieger will be performing a concert with students from The Neighborhood Rock School and some of Burbank, CA’s finest youth rock bands, including: LA Noise, S-Cubed, Ask My Fist, The Avengers, Blowtorch, Driven, Nova, Poprocks, Rumor Has It, Feedback, Impact 5, Raccoon City, Story-Time, Toxic Bobcat and Owersario.

The concert will be an afternoon matinee on St. Patrick’s Day, Sunday, March 17, at the world-famous Whisky A Go-Go in Hollywood.  Bassist Arthur Barrow, formerly of the Frank Zappa band, also will be performing.

The event is a fundraiser for the Rock School Scholarship Fund, a 501©3 public charity that provides music education for underserved kids at rock music schools across the country.

The concert begins at 2:30 p.m., but the doors open for a pre-party at 1 p.m.

Tickets are tax-deductible and can purchased for a minimum donation of $20 at Neighborhood Rock School, 2602 Glenoaks Blvd, Burbank, CA. 818-557-7723, neighborhoodrockschool.com.

Tickets may also be purchased at the door on the day of the show.

Robby Krieger is an American rock guitarist and songwriter. He is the guitarist for The Doors, and wrote some of the band's best-known songs, including "Light My Fire," "Love Me Two Times," "Touch Me," and "Love Her Madly." He is listed on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time.

Arthur Barrow joined the Frank Zappa band in 1978. He went on five tours with the band, and can be heard playing bass, guitar and keyboards on about a dozen recorded albums. Before his time with Zappa, Barrow met Robby Krieger in 1976 and recorded synthesizer with The Doors on the album, “American Prayer.”

In the early 1980s Krieger and Barrow co-wrote music, recorded and toured the U.S. together. They had a live band then for a short time called Red Shift that performed in the LA area.  Krieger and Barrow continue to collaborate and perform together, most recently on Robby’s Grammy nominated album, “Singularity.”

The Rock School Scholarship Fund (RSSF) provides tuition and instruments to kids ages 7 to 17 who want to attend any rock music school in the U.S.A., but whose parents do not have the financial means.  With music programs being cut back in public schools, private after-school programs have taken their place, but many families cannot afford the $150 to $350 per month for their child to attend.

Co-Founders Wendy Winks and Carl Restivo started the Rock School Scholarship Fund in 2010, while running the School of Rock in Hollywood.

Carl Restivo was the Music Director for the school, with a music resume as a singer, multi-instrumentalist, performer, writer, and producer.  Carl currently plays guitar and sings with Tom Morello’s The Nightwatchman and Street Sweeper Social Club since 2008.  In 2006-7, Carl was also the bassist for Perry Farrell’s Satellite Party, and in 2008 was lead guitarist for Perry Farrell’s solo venture.  Carl also co-wrote “Go All The Way (Into The Twilight)” with Perry Farrell on the over 3.5 million platinum soundtrack to the movie “Twilight.”

Wendy Winks is a literary manager and producer whose clients have written several movies for Hallmark and Disney, most notably “Camp Rock,” for the Disney Channel. Wendy has also produced two independent films, and a movie for Hallmark.  One, a family comedy entitled “Dog Gone” was distributed on DVD by Universal.  For Hallmark, she produced the holiday movie, “Santa Jr.”

“I founded the Rock School Scholarship Fund with Carl Restivo, when we were running the School of Rock in Hollywood,” says co-founder and Executive Director, Wendy Winks.  “Some kids would come into the school with their parents, take a tour and hear about being in a band and being able to perform on stage at real rock venues, and they would just light up with excitement.  But then I would tell them how much tuition cost, and the parents would look so disappointed.  We didn’t have any kind of financial aid or scholarship program, so with the help of ONE LLP, we created the Rock School Scholarship Fund, the first 501(c)3 public charity that focuses on helping kids who want to attend any rock music school in the USA.”

The RSSF currently works with over 50 rock schools in twenty states. To participate, a school must teach a rock music curriculum, and students must have the opportunity to perform in a band, on stage.  “The many benefits of music education are well-documented,” says Wendy Winks, “higher IQ, better grades, etc.  But I’ve seen this program pay off huge dividends in building kids confidence, and creating social ties that lead to opportunities that they would never have experienced otherwise.   There are many charities out there that help kids play in an orchestra.  Our mission is to help kids rock!”

“We are thrilled to have Robby Krieger and Arthur Barrow as special guest performers at this event,” says Wendy Winks. “And we are grateful to Neighborhood Rock School for hosting this fundraiser!“
