The IIHS interviewed a total of 500 Volvo owners who credited the implementation of crash avoidance features to keeping them safe and ensuring that accidents did not occur. These experiences are reinforced by information from the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) that found that "the rate of property damage liability claims for Volvos with standard City Safety™ is lower than for other vehicles in the same class."
City Safety is a support system that is designed to help Chicago Volvo motorists avoid collisions in low speeds while riding in slow-moving or stop-and-go traffic that is frequently found in the Windy City. When driving at speeds up to 30 mph, City Safety will assist by applying the brakes automatically when sensing that a crash is imminent.
The HDLI also stated that fewer claims have been registered with vehicles using optional technologies. One of the amenities that the institute quoted is a higher-speed forward collision warning system with autonomous braking that is designed to avoid or reduce the severity of a crash.
