Local Missouri Republican Club Seeks Answers

March 6, 2013 - PRLog -- On January 23, 2013, The Tesson Ferry Township Republican Club, Saint Louis Missouri, held a “What Do You Say?” Town Hall Meeting. The purpose was to let average grassroots Republicans vent and express their opinions as to the direction they would like the Republican Party to go. Jim Murphy, President of the TTRC stated “We feel it is time that the people should be heard.” Representatives from Senator Roy Blunt and Congresswoman Ann Wagner’s offices were present along with House Members of the Missouri Legislature; none were allowed to address the forum. Murphy stated “The politicians said enough during the election, it’s our turn now.” This event was publicized in the local newspaper with one small advertisement and amazingly, over 120 people attended and they came ready to express their views. The format for the forum was simple, a subject was presented and the floor was open for comments. To prevent filibusters, each comment was limited to 90 seconds. Subjects up for discussion were; “Is Pro-Life Dead?”, “Do we need more gun control?”, “”Is military spending too high?”, “Do we need to defend religious freedom?” and many more. The results of the meeting were astounding! Although frustrated by the election results, a spirit of determination was evident in the comments. Murphy stated “I was impressed with the insight of the comments. These are hard-working middle class people who just want America to regain its footing. They are tired of Republicans being portrayed as a bunch of white rich folks when they work hard for every dime. The consensus was the Republicans are losing the messaging battle. One speaker stated “We as republicans have nothing to be ashamed of. Our ideas, positions and our leadership helped build this nation” another stated that we need to offer meaningful solutions to problems and offer compassion and a hand to those who need assistance. On social issues there was a debate as to what the roll of political parties is and what should be left to the religious community. The clear message was we need to fight the important battles like reducing the debt and concentrate less on the side issues.
