Arizona Personal Injury Lawyers Award Kyrene De Los Cerritos Teacher with $250!

This month it goes to a very deserving teacher at Kyrene de los Cerritos Elementary School, Ms. Michelle Mandola!

With the school year getting off to a busy start, Principal, Darcy DiCosmo, found time to surprise Ms. Mandola in front of the entire fourth grade! Attorney Mark Breyer presented her with a $250 gift card and plaque. This year with the help of Peter Piper Pizza, Ms. Mandola's class will also receive a pizza party!

The nominations for Ms. Mandola poured in over the last month. Nominators had glowing things to say about Ms. Mandola's teaching, mentoring, and motivational skills. One parent shared that Ms. Mandola, “goes above and beyond by making learning fun and interesting.” Another nominator touted Ms. Mandola as a role model for students inside as well as outside the classroom, “she stresses the need for exercise, healthy eating and teaches her kids those attributes help you succeed in school too.”

Giving Back to Those Who Make a Difference
Unfortunately, budget cuts, increases in the cost of living, and more people out of work means there are more students heading off to school without the proper supplies. Many teachers take it upon themselves to fill this gap.

On average, school teachers nationwide spend $400 a year out of their own pocket to supply their classrooms with some of the most basic needs, such as pencils, paper, crayons, and scissors. The National School Supply and Equipment Association in 2010 found that the total out of pocket amount spent in the U.S. totals over $1.33 billion dollars every year.
