FastPencil Publishes New Book About China’s ‘Power Couple’

Together They Hold Up the Sky Recounts the Thrilling Rise to Power of China's Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan

Campbell, CA – March 5, 2013 –
FastPencil announces the release of a new book about the man poised to become China’s new President, Xi Jinping, and his wife, Peng Liyuan.  A country with the world’s second largest economy, and its prominence on the global stage, Together They Hold Up the Sky offers a fascinating look into a new era for China and its citizens.

Amidst the backdrop of sweeping political and social change, the book offers a glimpse of one man’s ascent to the most powerful position in China, along with a wife who is equally as famous in her own right.

Of the book, author Martin Macmillan says, “In writing Together They Hold Up the Sky I have tried to provide access to understanding the dramatic making and rise of modern China for a broad range of readership, especially those readers who enjoy storytelling as a way of making history and contemporary events come alive. It’s not often that people interested in such diverse topics as arts and politics can find common ground in a single book. Yet the extraordinary lives of Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan invite us into a fascinating world where Chinese art and politics are as inextricably bound in the culture as these two individuals, now leading the country, are bound to each other in their marriage. Their story is truly the story of China’s past, present and quite possible future.”

About the Author

British author Martin Macmillan was born in the People’s Republic of China in 1955. Proficient in Mandarin, he was educated in Beijing and Shanghai where he earned his B.A. degree following the Cultural Revolution and went on to hold academic and professional positions at high-profile institutions in Beijing as well as receiving his M.A. degree abroad. An eye-witness to the tumultuous events of the Cultural Revolution and the post-Mao era of China’s new economy, his unique personal and family background allows him an insider’s perspective of many of the political and cultural changes emanating from Beijing and sweeping the country.
