"We are all about getting pets home faster and safer than any other solution available," said Tom Arnold, Founder of PetHub, Inc. "That does not preclude us from having fun, encouraging fashion and providing function all at the same time," he said.
Arnold refers to the new designs his company offers through their Shop.PetHub.com website. Kiss Me I'm Rescued along with a Mustache & Monocle are two of their fun designs. In addition, they offer tags that are more serious focusing on alerting would-be rescuers to the fact that an animal has important needs, such as diabetes or other medical conditions using a "Medic Alert"-style design.
"Through our free profile and 24-by-7 call center, which is also included at no charge to the pet owner, anyone finding a lost animal with one of our tags or our partners' tags can get that animal the critical attention it requires, in addition to instantly alerting the pet parent as to what's going on," remarked Arnold.
Tom refers to their revolutionary online service that links a physical pet ID tag to an online web profile, similar to Facebook but for pets. PetHub's approach is available through, what the industry refers to as, a "freemium model" where high-end services are provided free of charge with the hope that many of PetHub's users will upgrade to the optional paid subscriptions (and they do!).
The Bronze level provides a free account, profiles for the animals being protected, and the ability to link a physical ID tag to the profile with unlimited updates, with no fees beyond the cost of the purchase of the initial ID tag. The optional Silver level provides GPS notifications and interactive mapping, access to a 13-thousand shelter database in North America to which the pet's profile can be broadcast, and instant notifications for when the pet's profile has been viewed. "Our Gold subscription provides every feature of PetHub.com along with $3,000 of emergency medical insurance to cover injuries sustained by the animal while it was missing," noted Arnold.
The new ID tags were market-tested with great success through a recent offering via Groupon.com in late February 2013. "Our users have spoken and only the top-selected designs made the cut and are now available in our online store on Amazon.com and through our shop at shop.pethub.com," concluded Arnold.
