CSMP Program Offers EHS Management Professionals a Premier Certification with no Exam in 2013

The ISHM’s Certified Safety Management Practitioner (CSMP) program has been grandfathered for 2013 so no examination is required this year.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Mar. 4, 2013 - Many people enter the safety and health profession from various backgrounds. Over time and with experience, as well as through on-the-job education, meetings and conferences, many of these practitioners become highly effective safety and health professionals. These individuals may include active safety team participants, line managers, engineers, or even human resources professionals.

In January of this year, the Institute for Safety and Health Management (ISHM) unveiled the Certified Safety Management Practitioner (CSMP) program.  It has been designed specifically to meet the needs of these types of professionals.  The CSMP recognizes those whose duties include performing occupational safety and health management activities either on a part-time or full-time basis.

The CSMP program provides recognition for people who demonstrate knowledge of health and safety management skills. This certification recognizes those who have attained a level of expertise, training and experience to competently manage a safety and health program. The designation can help strengthen future career choices and provide a competitive edge for professionals who earn the CSMP.

“In addition to technical knowledge of occupational safety and health, a successful CSMP must possess working knowledge of a broad range of business issues and principles,” reported Larry Curtis, CSHM, Executive Director of ISHM.  “These may include an understanding of safety related issues such as hazard analyses, accident investigations, safety audits and surveys, workers' compensation, product safety, environmental laws, quality and labor relations.  The CSMP program has been warmly received and as an additional incentive to increase awareness of the program, it is being grandfathered for the remainder of 2013.  This means that applicants who meet the requirements do not have to pass an examination during the grandfathering period.”
