By: Law Offices of Richard Tendler A recent article in The Palm Beach Post included Attorney Tender’s comments about his client and his history of service. “Mr. Freeman is a respected member of our community,” Attorney Tendler was quoted as saying in the Feb. 20 article. “He has helped many families throughout the years, working tirelessly for families and doing tremendous volunteer work for decades.” As highlighted in a recent article by the Sun Sentinel (Feb. 22), the community activist is known for his years of taking on issues of racism and other matters that affect local residents. In 2005, was working as a NAACP field representative and spoke out against a grand jury’s decision. The grand jury had decided not to indict a white police officer who had killed a black teenage boy in Delray Beach. In another example of his activism, the man spoke out in 2009 on behalf of a group of black cheerleaders who claimed their rejection by a high school squad was based on discrimination. Attorney Tendler’s client is the founder of a reading program that serves at-risk youth in the community. The program has garnered support in the past from a Congressman and Riviera Beach council members. The community activist has also served as a leader of his local Democratic Party. According to the article in The Palm Beach Post, the allegations against the activist stem from an anonymous letter that claimed that the superintendent of Palm Beach County Schools had participated in sexual acts with employees of the school district. The attorney’s client was accused of trying to use that letter as leverage to get the district to pay a $895,000 settlement and of telling the superintendent that the payment would resolve the issue of the letter’s claims. As outlined in the article, the defendant was also accused of other favors that would benefit his reading program organization.
