Topic of the week: Benefits of Group Goals Inside Organizations

Motivating your team is not that easy. Money is not always an effective motivation for them to do their task effectively.

March 4, 2013 - PRLog -- When working at a job, we all make goals, either formally or informally. While we all make individual goals, there are benefits to making group goals with a team. These goals will guide work for the individual, the group, and for the company.

When making goals together, the whole team benefits. By listening to each other’s ideas, the group learns to organize suggestions and thoughts. Listening also helps with ideas that would not have been considered without bouncing these ideas off others. By listening to each other, camaraderie among the team members develops. As long as everyone contributes without criticism, the group benefits by working together.

Organizational skills develop among team members. Assignments are given to individuals that are brought back to the group. This develops accountability among the individual members while developing team accountability when it all comes together toward the end goal and end result of the project.

If is vital for each member to understand the need for the goal before each will commit to completing it on time. When developed together, everyone understands the need for the goal and commits to the deadlines that are set. With understanding comes commitment. Commitment comes with contributing to the goal. If each team member contributes, then the individuals feel like they partially own it and will be able to give it full attention to completion. Without the commitment, the group and the individuals will not stay with the goal and will wander aimlessly on other projects while not meeting deadlines.

Group goals help companies achieve specific outcomes that increase productivity, improve the working conditions of a company, and boost morale for everyone in the group. The individual team members stimulate each other’s creativity and ideas by using brainstorming and exchanging thoughts. The team is more motivated when working together toward an agreed upon goal. Each person in the group feels responsible for achieving and completing goals and assignments.  Because each person contributes equally to making the goal, there is more desire by each member for achieving the goal. When a group makes goals together, there is a combination of knowledge by each member which provides a shared resource for all members to problem solve.

With everyone working together, there is a higher chance of success of the goal being completed. The individual’s personal growth increases. Team development creates advancements for the company. The company increases business and success. Everyone wins.
