Making Music for MDA was a dream of Barrington resident Dr. Robert Miller whose goal was to use music to make a difference with the Muscular Dystrophy Association. A musician himself, Bob knew not to underestimate the power of a few, local, talented artists who set their minds to playing for a cause. Before the 2012 concert, Bob told local media outlets, “It is only through the kindness and generosity of so many that this very special event is happening. While MDA has long been close to our hearts, this benefit concert provides an opportunity to make a real contribution and make a difference.” And make a difference they did: Music for MDA’s debut sold-out event raised over $5,000 for MDA. Later that spring, the second Music for MDA concert was organized by Robert’s daughter, Rebecca, at Brandeis University.

This money helps funds services MDA provides to over 900 families in Southeastern Massachusetts and Greater Rhode Island communities. Services include comprehensive healthcare at clinics at Rhode Island Hospital, UMass Memorial Medical Center, Mass General Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Tufts Medical Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, New England Medical Center and Lahey Clinic in Burlington. MDA also provides week-long sessions at local MDA Summer Camps in New Hampshire and Connecticut, for affected children in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts between the ages of 6 and 17. Support group services, medical equipment repairs, advocacy, flu shots, and worldwide research efforts are also funded by money raised at events like Music for MDA. MDA is a nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research.

This year’s event is expected to draw a much larger audience than 2012 and should be a wonderful & inspiring event.
