Stockpiling for Survivors™ will strive to help women in Atlanta and other states, as donations permit, The program is currently located in the Michigan area and will relocate in Atlanta in Summer 2013.
"Women call our office daily because their income does not stretch throughout the month to provide food and basic necessities. I became homeless, it was my habit of clipping coupons made it possible for me to purchase hygiene products. God provided me with a source to sustain myself during those dark days," says Young.
Each week, volunteers will come together to coupon for survivors. Currently, Young purchases twenty Sunday papers and also collects them from family members to obtain more coupons. This allows the organization to provide survivors with the items they need for themselves and their families.
"It's still not a enough! Touching Heart's phone calls have tripled in the last 6 months. Funding for local community organizations that have traditionally provided housing and bill payment assistance has been cut; a program that helps women and children with hygiene needs does not exist. We need to remember that these necessary items cannot be purchased with monthly SNAP benefits."
