March 2, 2013 - PRLog -- After Unique Languages revealed recently that British schoolchildren are still far behind their European counterparts in speaking a foreign language fluently, Spanish telecoms group Telefonica has said that it "badly needs" more British graduates who can speak foreign languages.

The survey was an embarrassing read for the Brits, showing that 14% of us have missed out on job opportunities because of a lack of language knowledge.

Most British schoolchildren learn French, which while a beautiful language to learn is not as necessary as Portuguese in the world of digital media, where Brazil is the country to watch.  Only 3% of British graduates speak Portuguese.

Telefonica said that companies should offer foreign language training to its' employees as part of the welcome package.

Steven Mitchell of Unique Languages called on employers to invest heavily in foreign language training and for people to do their bit:  "Learn some of the language, experience the culture and develop an interest in travel and acquiring knowledge" he said.

Unique Languages organises modern foreign language courses for motivated language learners who are willing to invest in their future:  http://www.uniquelanguages.com for further information.
