Town of Wallkill Supervisor Dan Depew endorses David M. Hoovler for Orange County District Attorney

Feb. 28, 2013 - PRLog -- Goshen, NY – Town of Wallkill Supervisor Dan Depew has recently endorsed David M. Hoovler in his bid to be Orange County’s next district attorney.

Depew, a former Orange County legislator and the former chairman of the Legislative Committee that oversaw the Sheriff’s Office and the DA’s Office, leads one of the largest towns in Orange County with a population of nearly 30,000 people.

“With the growth we’ve seen here in Wallkill, the safety of our residents is my top priority,” said Depew. “I am heartened by Dave’s plan to battle drugs and gangs with other law enforcement agencies. He’s also got aggressive plans to combat fraud, and that can only be of benefit to all of us.”

Hoovler is a former assistant district attorney in both the Bronx and Orange County District Attorney’s Offices. He is also a former Department of Justice trial attorney and Assistant United States attorney who specialized in electronic surveillance-related issues, wiretapping, and complex narcotics conspiracy cases.

Hoovler recently announced his candidacy in front of a crowd of over 300 supporters at the Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame in Goshen in response to District Attorney Frank Phillips’ earlier declaration that he would retire at the end of this year.

“Frank Phillips has correctly passed the torch on to the next generation, and Dave is the perfect choice to take the DA’s office into the future,” said Depew. “It isn’t about politics for Dave; it’s about keeping his attention focused on improving the lives of all residents in Orange County. I am pleased to offer him my full support.”

Depew added: “I believe that change in Orange County government is necessary and Dave Hoovler will be a leader for positive progress in a new county governmental team.”
