Sage conference - Todays Vision: Tomorrows Reality - "Sage consistently supports the communities in which they live and work by donating time, skills, knowledge and other resources to community programs. The company wide initiative was established in 2002 and has 100% participation from Sage's hotels and restaurants." As well as performing at the conference, teacher Jon Schwartz and the band will be presented with computers for their school. The Kids Like Blues Band Program is about using blues music in a thematic teaching method. They use the lyrics and music as a springboard for teaching academic content standards in reading, writing, listening, speech, social studies, and the visual and performing arts. As they mine the song for opportunities to teach the academic content standards, students choreograph dance moves to the song, learn how to phrase the words correctly and modulate their pitch, tone, intonation, and pronunciation, and work together in an authentic community learning environment to bring each member along as a fully functioning member of our "gigging" band. Featured in the US Department of Education "Teaching Matters" and on KPBS. Songs like, Chuck Berry’s “Let it Rock”. Chuck Berry’s "Johnny B. Goode," "Deep Elem Blues" and Chuck Berry's "Promised Land." http://www.kidslikeblues.org The Kids Like Blues Project Official Video http://www.youtube.com/ Founder Jon Schwartz and Kids Like Blues: Jon is a teacher at Garrison Elementary in Oceanside, CA: A school for the visual and performing arts.
