The party-list groups are You Against Corruption and Poverty (YACAP), An Waray, Ang Asosayon Sang Mangunguma Bisaya-Owa (AAMBIS-OWA)
"I am deeply, deeply grateful for the support,” said Angara, who is included in the Top 12 winning circle of senatorial candidates in the May 13 elections based on recent surveys by independent pollsters, including Stratpoll where he ranked 4th rank in its latest survey.
"The senatorial candidates have to forge a common agenda with the party-list groups as they represent the sentiments, dreams and aspirations at ground level - which can given flesh through legislation,”
Angara said he was deeply honored by the part-list groups' support and promised not to fail them if elected to the Senate. He pointed out that these nine party-list groups have broad constituencies, from labor and trade unions and anti-corruption groups to regional and ethnic groupings. The nine groups earlier said they shared Angara’s aspiration to help improve the life of every Filipino family.
“He is a staunch advocate not just for a better educational system, but also a cleaner more transparent government. He is at the top of our list of candidates that we will endorse for Senator this May 2013," Rep. Carol Lopez (YACAP-PL) said.
Angara, chair of the House of Representatives' Committee on Higher and Technical Education, has sponsored several significant bills and implemented various developmental projects in his district.
The Harvard-trained lawyer has also sponsored laws that support the Filipino family such as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act, which exempts the sale of goods and services to senior citizens from expanded value added tax so they can to enjoy the full 20 percent discount privilege, the Personal Equity and Retirement Account (PERA), and the Magna Carta of Women.
Angara, one of The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) awardees in 2010, has been described as a “ prolific and hardworking legislator “ by non-partisan groups tracking the performances of legislators.
