“Surpassing 50,000 patient transports is a significant accomplishment and we would like to recognize our dedicated CALSTAR team members, past and present, as well as our many industry partners who have made it possible,” Malmstrom said.
CALSTAR is a nonprofit regional air medical service whose mission is “to save lives, reduce disability and speed recovery for victims of trauma and illness through rapid transport, quality medical care and education.” It is the largest nonprofit air medical provider on the West Coast operating eight rotor-wing bases and a fixed-wing base which collectively serve more than 3,000 patients annually.
Malmstrom added, “With this milestone, it is a fitting time to introduce CALSTAR’s new brand identity, which provides a dynamic platform for the launch of several exciting new initiatives in the months ahead.”
The company’s first rebranding effort in its 28-year history was designed specifically to support a new suite of services that will more effectively meet the needs of CALSTAR’s customers and community partners. The new offerings will include a dedicated patient transfer referral center, additional specialty care service lines and an expanded outreach education program.
CALSTAR’s distinctive new logo and colors are already prominently displayed on the first two of eight new Eurocopter EC135 helicopters that will be acquired as part of the company’s fleet standardization plan. Now serving the South Bay and Central Coast communities from CALSTAR’s Gilroy and Santa Maria bases, the EC135 is widely recognized in the air medical industry for its safety features, high performance and extended range in responding to both emergency scene and regional inter-facility transport requests.
Last year, the company expanded the capability of its fixed-wing inter-facility transport program with the purchase of a Beechcraft Super King Air B200. CALSTAR plans to apply the new brand to the Super King Air and its Eurocopter BO-105 helicopters within the next 12 to 18 months.
