Jazz Scholarships open to High School and College Students by Dance Bands

Dance Bands, a collection of national musical entertainment groups (http://dancebands.com/), has announced their first annual Jazz Scholarships in conjunction with Utah Live Bands.

“We are giving the gift of opportunity to aspiring musicians,” said Michael Tobian, Owner and CEO of Dance Bands. “Financial need shouldn’t stop students from pursuing their dreams.”

They will be awarding one $500 scholarship and several $200 scholarships to Utah students (http://dancebands.com/jazz-scholarship-2013) that are either currently attending a university as a music major, or with plans to acquire higher or secondary education with a music emphasis.

The deadline to apply is April 30, 2013. Applicants will be judged on performance, difficulty of the piece, financial need and written application.

Winners of the scholarships will be invited to perform in a jazz concert held in May where the awards will be given.

Interested students will submit an application online at Dancebands.com and submit a video of themselves performing a jazz tune live. The video must be less then 5 minutes in length, saved in digital format and viewable via a URL (Youtube, Vimeo, etc). Video performances may be solo or accompanied by a band or jazz combo but need to feature the applicant on the melody of the tune and should include an improvised solo.
