By: Angel Martinez III To kick off this promotional program that helps Scout units earn their way to camp, standout Cub Scout salesman, Christopher Garza, will sell the first CAMP CARD of the season to San Antonio philanthropist and San Antonio Scorpions pro soccer team owner, Gordon Hartman, at 3:30 p.m. this Thursday (February 28). The media is invited to witness this event at the Scorpions’ new stadium, Toyota Field, located at 5103 David Edwards Drive,in Northeast San Antonio, just west of IH 35. “Like camping and outdoor adventure, selling a product like the CAMP CARD prepares our youth to face the world with a heart of service, commitment, and leadership to find success,” says Michael de los Santos, Scout Executive for the Alamo Area Council, BSA, based in San Antonio, Texas. Christopher, who’s in the third grade and enjoys Scouting and soccer, has found success as a top-selling Bear Cub within Pack 70, which is recognized as the best-selling popcorn unit throughout the 13 counties and almost 29,000 youth served by the Alamo Area Council. “Thank you, Mr. Hartman, for supporting our community and Scouting. Buying this card helps me and my Pack earn our way to camp and enjoy other fun stuff,” says Christopher with his father and mother, Juanito and Patty Garza, by his side. Besides becoming a vendor-partner by offering a great discount within the CAMP CARD, the San Antonio Scorpions have created a new partnership with the Alamo Area Council that will result in a new Scout Night camp out opportunity scheduled for May 18th within nearby Morgan’s Wonderland, the world’s first theme park designed with special-needs individuals in mind and built to be enjoyed by everyone. “I’m delighted to purchase the first CAMP CARD, and I’m thrilled to hear about the Alamo Area Council’s successful relationship with Morgan’s Wonderland,” “Supporting positive youth initiatives such as the camp card program, which focuses on the betterment of our youth is something that we are excited to be involved with,” continued Howard Cornfield, President and General Manager of the Scorpions. “Beyond our gratefulness for Howard’s support of the card and for Mr. Hartman buying the first CAMP CARD from Christopher, we’re grateful for this new opportunity to work together in serving youth in our community through sports, fitness and outdoor adventure activities,” Officially starting this Friday, look for Scouts selling CAMP CARDS in front of various local businesses and within neighborhoods over the next five weeks. The Alamo Area Council scouting units sold over $1,605,367 of popcorn during the annual fall sale in 2012. Over $600,000 of those monies helped support an ideal year of Scouting for kids and their communities. Through the CAMP CARD program, the Alamo Area Council hopes to provide units this additional fundraiser in the spring to support our youth’s increased participation in camping and outdoor adventures to Prepare them for Life.
