Mitsubishi Debuts New Concept Cars at Geneva Motor Show

While it could be some time before a concept car comes to reality – indeed, some are never produced for the public – they serve as an insight into where the company is headed, with many aspects of concept vehicles showing up in some future models.

To kick off the show, Mitsubishi will reveal the GR-HEV, which is a unique blend of SUV and pickup referred to as the “sport utility truck,” giving drivers the versatility of an SUV with the hauling and work capabilities of a truck. The “HEV” in its name stands for “hybrid electric vehicle,” and unlike many hybrids, the GR-HEV is set to have a diesel engine powering it for an even more environmentally-friendly vehicle.

The GR-HEV is supposed to have carbon emissions as low as 149 g/km, giving it a best-in-class rating with regard to the environment. Other new technologies include a next-gen four-wheel drive system for higher stability and performance under almost any driving conditions.

The other concept being unleashed upon the world will be the CA-MiEV, another environmentally-friendly vehicle. The CA-MiEV looks to be the future of Mitsubishi's electric car, with the concept equipped with technology that the automaker believes will be standard in electric vehicles as they come to prominence, including high energy density batteries, drastically improved regenerative braking and motors for high-efficiency EV systems, and a lightweight body for added aerodynamics.

Mitsubishi expects the cruising range on the CA-MiEV to be over 150 miles, which is likely to improve once prototype and production models come about.

The Geneva Motor Show runs from March 5 through March 17, with public access granted from March 7 onward.
