Feb. 27, 2013 - PRLog -- SALT LAKE CITY (February 27, 2013) – Snell & Wilmer is pleased to announce that the Salt Lake City office has selected Head Start as the recipient of a three-year grant from the Snell & Wilmer Foundation. The grant is awarded every three years to a Salt Lake City-based organization that promotes early childhood education for disadvantaged children. Head Start will receive $25,000 each year for the next three years starting in the summer of 2013.

“It is both humbling and inspiring to learn about the Head Start program” said Curtis Drake, partner at Snell & Wilmer and head of the grant selection committee. “Erin Trenbeath-Murray and her staff work incredibly hard and creatively to provide desperately needed help and early childhood education to many disadvantaged kids in our community. We are excited for the opportunity to help support Head Start with both funding and hands-on service projects.”

Head Start consists of comprehensive early childhood development programs serving low-income children from ages birth to five and their families. Head Start is a federally funded program that is operated by local entities. Salt Lake Community Action Program (CAP) is the grantee for Head Start serving Salt Lake and Tooele Counties. Children who attend Head Start participate in school-readiness curriculum that includes literacy, language, science, mathematics and social-emotional development. They also receive medical and dental services, have healthy meals and snacks, and enjoy playing safely indoors and outdoors.

The Salt Lake CAP opened its first Head Start program in the summer of 1965. To ensure equal quality to all Head Start families, Salt Lake CAP became the single Head Start Grantee in 2000. Currently Salt Lake CAP Head Start serves over 2,400 families in 84 classrooms each year. For more information visit www.saltlakeheadstart.org

The House of Hope and Guadalupe School have been past recipients of the three-year grant.
