Feb. 27, 2013 - PRLog -- CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union helped host two Kids Marketplace Activities in collaboration with ACPS Family & Community Engagement Centers and the Virginia Cooperative Extension.

The Kids Marketplace is a hands-on financial education activity designed to introduce elementary school children to financial choices and help them understand the difference between wants and needs. Volunteers from the credit union, the Virginia Cooperative Extension and the Alexandria community made these events successful.

The first event was held in the library of Cora Kelley School for Science Math and Technology on January 24 with 18 students completing the program. The second was held on January 28, 2013 in the library of John Adams Elementary School with another 18 students participating in and completing the program.

The event had a great deal of positive feedback from not only the kids who left with a better understanding of needs, wants and compromise, but from the volunteers as well.  Florence M. King of FMK INC, who was a community volunteer, stated, “The session was great. I thoroughly enjoyed volunteering. The marketplace activity was inches away from reality. Keep up the good work.”

CommonWealth One continues to participate in these educational activities for young people.
