The “Attorney of the Year” award winners were selected from over 200 nominees, who were reviewed by the magazine’s editors. The magazine only considered California attorneys who handled deals for clients within the state or cases in California courts. Attorney Armstrong was recognized for his successful defense in a number of cases that involved very serious criminal allegations. According to the magazine, the lawyer was not only chosen for the fact that he handled nine jury trial cases during 2012, but also for the fact that was able to achieve acquittals, both complete and partial. These were for cases that involved very serious charges, including murder, rape, premeditated attempted murder, and child molestation. As a result of Attorney Armstrong’s jury trial case outcomes, four clients were able to avoid life terms in prison. The lawyer’s last acquittal of the year, which was for a sex abuse case involving seven alleged victims, occurred on Christmas Eve.
The award winners will be profiled in the magazine’s March 25 issue. The Recorder, which is geared toward California attorneys and legal professionals, provides its readers with news, profiles and other information about the “business of law.” It publishes a weekly newspaper and provides content online.
