NEW YORK CITY – (February 26, 2013) – “We Love Jenni,” a frank and revealing biography of the late Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera written by The New York Times best-selling author Marc Shapiro and journalist Charles Vázquez, goes on sale Wednesday, February 27. Riverdale Avenue Books (RAB) is publishing the book simultaneously in paperback and e-book formats. It is available at http://riverdaleavebooks.com/
The biography goes behind the scenes to tell a riveting story of the iconic Latina, who was killed last December 9th in a plane crash in Mexico.
Shapiro, author of popular biographies of celebrities such as J. K. Rowling and Justin Bieber, says the Rivera book tells the story of a woman “who never shied away from any of the huge problems she faced in life – her rough and tumble childhood, her cheating husband, her first love who in reality was a child molesting monster, her son's indiscretion with an underage girl and so much more.”
“Charles and I had a great time writing this biography because Jenni was such an amazing woman – it’s reflected in her fiery live performances and the music that would set many millions on the course for equal rights for women in a long male-dominated Mexican culture,” Shapiro added. “She was a star in a world that many of us did not know and only her sad, untimely death kept her from breaking out and having it all.”
“We Love Jenni” includes an exclusive interview with veteran music author/historian Elijah Wald, an expert on Jenni's music and her world, who provided fascinating insights into Jenni Rivera's life and career.
RAB publisher Lori Perkins said, "Jenni was set to become the next household name, like Oprah, with her ABC television show. With her dynamic, honest and powerful personality she was poised to further change the way we view Hispanic women. As a feminist, and the mother of an Hispanic-American, I am really glad to be publishing this book."
Rivera sold over 15 million albums and was nominated for Latin Grammys in 2003, 2008 and 2010. The Shapiro-Vazquez biography tells the story of her early life as one of five children in a tight-knit musical household, her teen-age pregnancy, her early successes as a regional Mexican Banda artist and her prowess as an entrepreneur who started enterprises that ranged from realty and cosmetics companies to The Jenni Rivera Love Foundation.
With more than twenty-five years, covering film, television and music for national and international newspapers and magazines, Marc Shapiro is the author of J.K. Rowling: The Wizard behind Harry Potter, Justin Bieber: The Fever! and other bestselling celebrity biographies.
