By: Dunphy PR The project is being hosted by Active Ennis Sports and Leisure Facilities, and supported by Wetlands Systems Ltd. and the Irish Seed Savers Association under the Garden of Eden Project. Active Ennis General Manager, Tim Forde said: “We are delighted to be participating in National Tree Week and believe that this community orchard will complement the existing 30 acres of woodland at Lees Road Sports & Amenity Park. The types of fruit trees being planted are in keeping with the surrounding mature, native trees.” Mr. Forde noted that the Orchard planting ceremony was also in keeping with this year’s National Tree Week theme of “A Feast of Trees”, with a particular emphasis on planting trees that provide a food source for humans, birds, bees and other wildlife. The Mayor of Ennis Councillor Peter Considine will be in attendance at the tree planting ceremony next Wednesday (March 6th) at 12pm. Meanwhile, community groups interested in availing of saplings and/or standard native trees during the upcoming National Tree Week should contact staff in the Environment Section of Clare County Council on 065-6846331/ Active Ennis Sports and Leisure Facilities include Lees Road Sports and Amenity Park, Ennis Leisure Complex, Tim Smyth Park, Cloughleigh Astroturf, Gleninagh Pitch, Coote Park, and the town’s playgrounds.
