American Conference on Diversity Jersey Shore Chapter Dining for Diversity Humanitarian Honorees

Feb. 26, 2013 - PRLog -- New Brunswick, NJ—The American Conference on Diversity Jersey Shore Chapter is pleased to announce the recipients of our 2013 Dining for Diversity Humanitarian Awards. These outstanding individuals and groups will be recognized on March 14 for their contributions to promote understanding and respect among all races, religions, and cultures through advocacy, conflict resolution, or education.

“For 65 years we’ve been helping to create diverse and inclusive communities, schools, and workplaces throughout New Jersey--and the Jersey Shore Chapter has been with us for more than 40 of those years! This year’s honorees demonstrate the good work performed by Jersey Shore area citizens, contributing to the quality of life for so many,” says American Conference on Diversity President and CEO Elizabeth Williams-Riley.

The honorees are:

► Detective Sergeant Cindy Boyd, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Special Investigation Unit. Sgt. Boyd has dedicated herself to protecting victims of fraud and bias and to apprehending perpetrators of crimes against those victims. Currently first vice president of the New Jersey Bias Crime Officers Association, Sergeant Boyd regularly gives lectures and provides training sessions and conferences for law enforcement, banking institutions, seniors, and any agency that offers services to seniors, providing valuable tools in the fight against financial exploitation of the elderly.

► Reverend Alexander Brown, Pastor, St. Paul Baptist Church Red Bank. Reverend Brown is Moderator of Seacoast Missionary Baptist Association, which implements many community programs including Lunch Break, a program to feed the homeless; cultural events; and scholarship opportunities for college students.  He serves on several boards in the Red Bank community, including the Red Bank Affordable Housing Corporation, Prison Ministry Outreach, and Monmouth Bible Institute. A retired Trenton Public School Principal, he brought to Monmouth and Ocean County youth the Granville Academy, a program providing 7th to 12th graders with the opportunity to advance their skills in business, finance, science, and engineering.  

► Danny McKee, President, Asbury Park Little League. Under McKee’s leadership, Asbury Park Little League has drawn about 100 children each year.  He believes Little League is about more than playing ball. It provides a positive alternative to the streets, “showing them that there’s a different way,” he says.

► Tim McLoone, Restaurateur and Founder, Holiday Express. In 1993, aided by friends in the music business, Tim McLoone founded Holiday Express, a volunteer, non-profit and non-sectarian organization dedicated to bringing music, gifts, and holiday cheer to hospices, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and other locations in the tri-state area during the holiday season. McLoone also enjoys a close relationship with the Boys and Girls Club of Monmouth County as well as The Valerie Center at Monmouth Medical Center. McLoone’s culture of philanthropy permeates his restaurants as well, with employees of McLoone restaurants supporting many local and civic groups.

► Albert A. Zager, Esq., Immediate Past President, CHHANGE – Center for Holocaust, Human Rights and Genocide Education at Brookdale Community College. Zager, a partner with Zager, Fuchs, P.C., has volunteered countless hours of service to the community. He is a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce Educational Foundation, an organization that offers non-traditional scholarships to local students, and has served on the Board of Directors of Lunch Break, an organization that helps feed the homeless, and in various leadership roles for Congregation B'nai Israel in Rumson. In addition, Zager is a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Center for Holocaust Studies at Brookdale Community College, now called CHHANGE, and served as President for 20 years. During his tenure, CHHANGE evolved into an organization that involves more than 100 volunteers and educates more than 15,000 students, teachers, and community members each year.

► Monmouth County Long-Term Recovery Group and Ocean County Long-Term Recovery Committee. Special recognition will be awarded to these groups for their efforts in bringing together a diverse mix of individuals to help restore Jersey Shore communities in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

This year’s Dining for Diversity event is co-chaired by Webster Trammell, 1997 Humanitarian Award Recipient and Vice President, Development, Governmental & Community Relations at Brookdale Community College, and Violeta Peters, 2006 Humanitarian Award Recipient and CEO of AcuteCare Health Systems.
