Success Leads To New Shop For “Icing On The Cake” In Bacup

Feb. 26, 2013 - PRLog -- Until now owner Christine Dyason had sold her unique, personalised adult & children’s’ cakes through online and “word-of-mouth” orders.

The new shop – in Pioneer Buildings, Bacup – will allow customers to buy cup cakes “off the shelf” and also to discuss their Wedding, Celebration and Novelty cake requirements with Christine, face to face.

This has been a long-hoped for dream come true for Christine  - a member of the British Sugar-Craft Guild - who says “On the 9th March the doors open to my dream Icing on the Cake Shop which will not only sell the delicious cakes I make but also equipment for the budding cake enthusiast like me. With Mothering Sunday the next day – March 10th – I feel the opening is fabulous timing and I hope a lot of local customers will come along to see us open”.

Christine started making cakes in her late teens for her nieces and nephews and then later for her own children, family and friends. It’s something she has always loved doing but she saw it as just a hobby.

As she explains, “Pretty soon, people outside of the family started to ask me to make cakes for them and of course they paid for their cakes.  In the back of my mind I thought “I would like to do this for a living” but then, as time wore on, it was still just a thought and a dream.  Then my grandchildren came along and I started making novelty and fun cakes again and to see their faces when they saw the finished cake was priceless.  I started to think about a business again but still felt I had left it too long.  
Over the last three years I have started to make more cakes by word of mouth and decided to have my own website in order to showcase my work; still thinking in the back of my mind about one day having my own shop.
I decided about 18 months ago that I would look around at shops and see what was out there; as I did that more and more my vision of my shop grew, but although I did find some shops that would have probably fit the bill -  with some work – somehow, that “wow feeling” was never quite there.
Then one day recently, when out in Bacup for lunch at the Pioneer Tea Rooms, we went into a nearby sweet shop which is run by a neighbour of mine.  He told me that there was a shop on the block that was for rent and that the landlord was in there decorating.  I went to look and from that moment I knew that THAT was the shop of my dreams – it certainly has the “wow factor” for me”.  

As well as opening the shop, Christine is re-branding the business with more of an Art Deco theme, with shop signage, new logo, new colour scheme – which will of course all be extended to her stationery, website and various social media platforms too.

Christine’s website very much remains somewhere where she can show-off her talents and skills for the variety of cakes she “makes-to-order” which include:-

Now, in addition, customers can not only talk face-to-face to Christine about their specific cake requirements – in a studio area of the shop – they can also go to the shop to pick up ordered cakes.

Christine’s service of “setting up” Wedding and other celebratory cakes at party venues will still be available.
