Bangalore: Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS), a national education institution, has announced a short course on ‘PPP in Urban Services – Lessons for Future Action’. The coursewill be held at the IIHS City Campus, Bangalore from March 6th - 9th. The course aims to help participants understand the way forward in improving urban service delivery through a PPP approach. The course is jointly offered by IIHS and iDeck.

This course will start with a quick overview of the PPP framework(s) and move on to take a critical look at case studies of Urban sector PPPs in India (and other developing countries) in an attempt to draw insights for future action in PPPs in the Urban sector. The course with focussed components on Urban Water, Urban SWM, Urban Transport and Urban Amenities like Markets, etc. along with a critical overview of services as they are structured currently, the roles of different participants, the key challenges, sector regulation status, key players, etc. will provide a comprehensive understanding of the present setting. From this, participants will be assisted to draw conclusions on what PPP models may apply to this sector.

Subsequently, the course will move on to look at case studies to understand what has been tried out and whether it has succeeded or failed and why; to help participants draw some lessons for what might work for the future. After all the sectors are covered, the course will attempt to round off the discussion on Urban PPPs by discussing sustainability issues (both environmental and social), new integrated and decentralised approaches, and what this would imply for policy, regulation and sector structure.

The experienced faculty for this course includes D.T.V. Raghu Rama Swamy, Chief Executive Officer of iDeCKLimited, with over seventeen years of professional experience in infrastructure advisory, development, project finance and management consulting practices; Debashis Ghosh, Senior Vice President at iDeCKLimited, with over nine years of experience in infrastructure transaction advisory, project feasibility, studies project structuring, financial modelling and project management in urban, transport and tourism sectors; Ganpathy PG currently an independent infrastructure and sustainability consultant with over 18 years of experience in Indian Infrastructure and Real Estate sector; Somnath Sen with more than 23 years of international consulting experience in strategic management, institutional reform and governance, decentralization and urban management; Sumeet Shukla, Senior Vice President at iDeCKLimited with over thirteen years of professional experience in infrastructure advisory, development and project finance and Dr. V. Sathyanarayana, CBDO and Legal Counsel at iDeCKLimited with more than twelve years of experience in the area of development of infrastructure projects under PPP frameworks.

The course will benefit Government and policy makers, individuals currently in the Private Sector or who are desirous of getting into it as well as students who are looking to enter or further a career in infrastructure in the private sector.
