But Davidson says he's been working on some of these events since mid-2011, and now the City of Bridgeport is talking to the former Ringling Bros. Circus Promoter about helping them redesign their 70 year old Barnum Festival into a "Super Tri-State event"... "and 3 or 4 other projects are out there incubating".
Davidson can't stay busy enough he says. Positioning himself years ago to be on tap- available to consult by phone, email and skype has made him a one-man promoting machine. Day and night he cranks out festival plans, investor agreements, executive summaries and budgets at lightning speed which would take the ordinary novice promoter months to compose, and they wouldn't have dozens of years of knowledge infused in them.
Davidson says he loves the action, dwelling in the minutia of site plans, concert formulas and wordsmithing for his clients, "They really don't want to deal with all of the details, and that's what I love" he said.
"It usually starts with someone buying one of my concert or festival HOW-TO books and seeing that they need help. Even promoters need promoters. A fresh perspective, confidential backboard or simply needing me to go over their cost and revenue projections, there;s a myriad of questions on any event. Some clients need to me to fly to their location and take over the entire project, others just need some paperwork done remotely or want me to be available for answers to on-the-spot questions that come up at almost anytime."
"Australia is 16 hrs. ahead of us, so I try to go to sleep by 8pm and awake working by 3 to 4am. If you have no social life, you can work every waking hour of every day", he says laughingly. "You gotta be careful what you wish for, if you make great sacrifices and realize you are here for a short time, you can fly in rare air. The show is over sooner than you think."
