SALT LAKE CITY--February 25, 2013-- FranklinCovey (NYSE: FC) today announced they are hosting a rare 29-city tour by Stephen M. R. Covey, author of the New York Times and #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling book, The Speed of Trust.  Stephen will be advocating an increase in trust in American organizations in both the profit and not-for-profit sectors.  

Recent media coverage has documented the tremendous drop in trust in U.S. businesses and government, punctuated last month by new data in the 2013 Edelman Trust Barometer. It shows that an alarming 85% of the general public in the U.S. don’t trust business leaders to tell the truth when confronted with a difficult issue.  Trust in government leaders is only slightly better at 82%.

Covey acknowledges that trusting people in this environment is risky but adds: “The paradox is that in such an historically low-trust marketplace, there are “outliers”—people and organizations in both the public and private sectors—that are trusted and are enjoying significant success.  Data shows high-trust organizations return three times the profit in total return to shareholders than do low-trust ones. High-trust schools are four times more likely to raise test scores than are low-trust ones, according to Tony Bryk at Stanford.” Covey’s core message teaches leaders how to manage the risk of trust by learning how to extend what he calls “Smart Trust”.  Covey has identified 13 behaviors common to high-trust people and, together with FranklinCovey Co., has developed a state-of-the-art, multi-media training course, Leading at The Speed of Trust, that has proven effective in hundreds of top organizations around the world.

The intent of the tour is to have the leading organizations in each city represented and to teach them how to increase trust with their stakeholders.  Mayors and civic leaders, as well as CEOs and other executives of large business and government employers are invited to attend.
