The Great American Pizza Survey

Feb. 23, 2013 - PRLog -- Have you ever stolen a slice of pizza?  Yes.  No.  I took the whole pie.  That’s the sort of question you will have to answer if you take The Great American Pizza Survey.  The fast, fun questions posted at www.1800COOKING.org are designed to help you find out just how addicted you are to Americas favorite food.

    Addicted is no overstatement.  We consume 100 acres of pizza a day which works out to 350 slices per second.  Ninety-three percent of us have pizza at least once a month and we average 46 slices per person per year.  There are over 70,000 pizzerias with more than 9,000 in New York alone.  Everyone knows the names of the big chains but sixty-five percent of operators are independents.

    1800COOKING has recently launched a crowd funding campaign on www.indiegogo.com to raise money to buy servers and software that will enable Mom and Pop pizzerias to compete for on line orders.  According to company CEO Don Campagna, “That’s an $11.4 billion market.  Our goal is one-tenth of one percent or $11.4 million.”  1800COOKING has pledged to donate 2% of profits to Feeding America, a national network of over 200 food banks.  

    “If you love pizza as much as I do, I know you will enjoy taking the survey.” said Campagna.  “I’m also confident that everyone who supports local businesses will see how important it is that they have an equal opportunity to succeed.”  If you are tempted to swipe a slice, or pie, he cautions, take plenty of napkins to remove trace evidence.
