According to the Outdoor Advertising Association of America, one wrapped vehicle can generate between 30,000 and 70,000 daily impressions. That makes them 5,600 percent more effective than radio, 7,200 percent more effective than billboards, and 252,000 percent more effective than post card mailers.
Cost is another factor that tips the advertising scale toward car wrapping. Billboards can cost about $5,000 a month, but a wrap can cost half that amount in a single payment and last for five years.
“Traditional advertising options such as magazine, radio, television, and billboards aren’t as reliable as they once were, and online advertising can be spotty. But with car wrapping, you are everywhere a customer is going to be—traffic, the driveway, a daily commute, special events, or the grocery store parking lot. Car wrapping is a stable, reliable advertising medium that never fails to draw attention and reaches up to 70,000 people a day,” said Scott Bechtel, owner of Dallas based Cars Wraps.
Almost any paintable hard surface can be wrapped. Cars Wraps has cloaked cars, trucks, buses, trailers, boats, walls, windows, water towers, helmets, motorcycles, generators, and golf carts.
A variety of companies have tried to break into the wrapping business, but not all wrapping techniques and materials are created equal, says Bechtel. Wraps done correctly with top grade vinyl can last for years, but inferior jobs may start to peel and fade sooner than later. According to Bechtel, it’s important to ask each wrapper about their materials, facility, and experience before committing to a wrap.
The specialty Avery Dennison vinyl material Cars Wraps uses lasts five years or more without fading or peeling, whereas lower quality materials may only last about two years. Correct installation is a priority, which is why Cars Wraps does all work in an air conditioned warehouse and supports comprehensive training for installers.
Bechtel’s in house staff of 20, including a large team of designers and a certified install crew, is dedicated to the sole task of wrapping cars. Cars Wraps has cloaked attention grabbers for major brands including the Dallas Mavericks, Texas Roadhouse, Little Caesar’s, Nestle Tollhouse, Caterpillar, and Harley Davidson.
Cars Wraps has adopted Women Rock, Inc., a breast cancer prevention and support nonprofit. Cars Wraps covered a Dodge Dually, race car, trailer, two vintage fire trucks, and series of pink FIATS to help promote breast cancer awareness. The pink fire trucks are regularly requested to attend events across the country.
Though car wrapping can be all about advertising, Cars Wraps does design work for those just looking to add extra flair to their rides. The brand specializes in a wide array of camouflage options, floral prints, faux bullet holes, even faux fur that’s so high definition it looks real.
In honor of the upcoming DFW Auto Show March 13-17 at the Dallas Convention Center, Cars Wraps is partnering with several local dealerships to wrap brand new vehicles including a Mercedes Benz, 2012 Chevy Corvette ZR1, Dodge Ram pickup, Dodge Charger, and several Jeeps. Cars will be on display in camouflage, fun colors, shining chromes, mattes, and zebra stripes. Every vehicle on display will be for sale.
“When considering a car wrap, the thing to pay attention to is quality. You want the best materials, experienced designers, and highly trained wrapping professionals. You also want the installation to take place in a clean, climate controlled, indoor environment. If a wrap is done well, it’s a long term investment—and a fun one—that can pay off for years,” said Bechtel.
