Students try on their new costumes
With 87 cast members, 40 pit orchestra players, and a crew of 20, this all-student production is directed by Weber State’s musical theater program director Jim Christian, working on the Viewmont stage for the first time. “The opportunity of directing Curtains gave me the chance to work in two of my favorite arenas: mysteries and musicals!” says Jim. “This delightful piece combines great songs, a clever script and wonderful characters. This experience has been fantastic! I've worked with students who are amazingly talented and eager as well as a strong production team of collaborators and artists. I think the result is going to be outstanding!”
Rehearsals began in early January with a carefully coordinated approach among several faculty members: Dan Chaston directing the orchestra, Chelsea Lamping guiding vocals, and Susan DeMill instructing choreography. The producer of the musical is Assistant Principal Jonathan Gochberg who acted in, directed, or produced over 100 shows since 1975. The two main leads are Talon Hatch, and Miriam Blaser, both seniors at VHS and experienced veterans of the stage.
