Feb. 21, 2013 - PRLog -- – Today, the U.S.-based non-profit African Institution of Technology has unveiled a crowdfunding platform kickstartuni.org for proposed First Atlantic University in Africa. Through the platform, the institution will raise funds which will be used in establishing the university. It has received support and continues to engage more foundations, individuals and corporations in its quest to help build a 21st century university in Africa. KickstartUni will provide the opportunity for all global citizens to participate in this vision and become Founding Partners of a project that will transform the African region.

When an individual backs or supports a project, there are perks or rewards depending on the amount. Rewards range from post-cards to having a college in the university named after the person or the institution. This is the adaptation of the Kickstarter model to build a university. Projects include university colleges, library, institutes, centers and more.

The vision of this university is "to discover and make scholars, noble, bright and useful”. The motivation is driven by the desire to train intellectually capable minds that will play leading roles in today’s global economy, and help position the region competitively through entrepreneurial innovation, technical excellence, and world-class management capabilities. As the knowledge economy reshapes the 21st century, the university will help anchor a sustainable knowledge base that will benefit not just the continent but MNCs that invest therein. We understand that no region can develop faster than its educational system and economic prosperity will always correlate with quality of education. The goal is to assemble Africa’s brightest kids, educate them, and then empower them to invent the next future.

The university will have its physical campus in Nigeria with two tele-classrooms in Silicon Valley and Boston. The goal is to tap into leading professors and entrepreneurs in U.S through this network. The university is a full conventional school with colleges in many fields and will have a Technology Park with two institutes – Microelectronics Training & Research Institute and Technology Collaboration Institute.

The educational program will develop leading-edge knowledge in priority research and development areas of the university (energy, health, agriculture, ICT and minerals), academic and innovative competencies (foresight, forecasting, thinking, projecting), and solving inter-disciplinary problems.

The university foundation, African Institution of Technology (www.afrit.org), a registered non-profit with the United States Internal Revenue Service, seeks the support of global citizens and corporations to help establish this school which will redesign the economic layer of Africa. It has acquired 250 acres of land and is already processing the university license with the government regulator in Nigeria.  The foundation class is planned for September 2015. Visit www.kickstartuni.org and back a project today.
