Feb. 21, 2013 - PRLog -- NEW YORK, NY – FEBRUARY 12, 2013 – An exciting new photography exhibit is set to open on Thursday, February 21 at NYU’s Kimmel Center, at 60 Washington Square South in New York City. A Peace of My Mind is presented by Pasos Peace Museum, which will host an opening event on February 21. Doors for the event will open at 6:30p.m., with the program beginning at 7 p.m. sharp. Attendees will have the opportunity to view the exhibit and to meet artist and creator John Noltner. A Peace of My Mind will remain at the Kimmel Center through March 25 and will include a series of discussion groups led by Mr. Noltner.

Since its 2010 premier, over 60,000 people have viewed A Peace of My Mind at private galleries, community centers, places of worship, libraries and universities. The exhibit explores the meaning of peace through stunning black and white portraits and accompanying personal stories of 52 diverse subjects. Each subject is showcased on a 24” x 36” canvas gallery wrap that includes the subject’s name, a short biography, a portrait, and a 250-word excerpt from an interview about what peace means to him or her.

“The project began out of the belief that if a single voice can make a small difference, then together, many voices can make a tremendous impact,” Nitza Milagros Escalera, Pasos Peace Museum Chair, explained. “This exhibit is an exciting way for us to advance Pasos’s mission of promoting peacebuilding through the arts and education. We are thrilled that Mr. Noltner will be joining us for the opening on February 21.  And we expect an enthusiastic reception for the exhibit in New York.”

In 2011,  A Peace of My Mind won support from 92 backers to produce a book from the series with a foreword written by Mahatma Gandhi’s granddaughter, Ela Gandhi. The initial press run of 1,150 books sold out within two months and a second printing was made in January 2012. The book earned first prize in the Midwest Book Awards and a silver Independent Publisher Book Award.

“The hope is that through conversation, we will begin to understand each other a little better,” artist John Noltner said. “By sharing, we will create a sense of community, and in our own way, make a stand for peace... in our own lives, in our communities, and in the world that we share.”
