Open Source Content Management Folks More Social Than Commercial Counterparts

In the Microsoft .NET content management space (CMS), the most social users are open source users.

Feb. 21, 2013 - PRLog -- For the better part of 2013, the most active people sharing information on their social networks about their favorite Microsoft content management system are by far folks running open source content management systems.

CMSHaven.com (http://www.cmshaven.com/) (http://www.cmshaven.com) tracks social media mentions of various CMS platforms for the Microsoft platform. Powered by Fligit.com (http://www.fligit.com/) (http://www.fligit.com), the Fligit score is obtained by the amount of likes, shares, pluses, done on Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, and LinkedIn.
At the top of the most popular open source CMS platform is Microsoft’s own Orchard Project (http://www.fligit.com/SiteScore/tabid/730/Default.aspx?q=http://www.orchardproject.net/), followed by Umbraco (http://www.fligit.com/SiteScore/tabid/730/Default.aspx?q=http://umbraco.com/), with DotNetNuke taking the third place spot.

All three of the open source platforms mentioned as of this writing has a Fligit score well above 300. Compare the open source scores with the commercial .NET CMS platforms, and you see that the online community for them all hover at a Fligit score of 200 or below, with Sitecore (http://www.fligit.com/SiteScore/tabid/730/Default.aspx?q=...) leading, followed by Sitefinity (http://www.fligit.com/SiteScore/tabid/730/Default.aspx?q=...), and Microsoft SharePoint (http://www.fligit.com/SiteScore/tabid/730/Default.aspx?q=...) taking third.

The numbers appear to indicate that the commercial platforms do not have folks sharing information about their respective platforms, whereas open source systems have a large community following that are highly engaged in social sharing.

Patrick Santry, owner of Fligit, and four time Microsoft MVP Award recipient says "This shows that the Microsoft open source community is flourishing, and actively engaged not only with their respective platforms, but engaging their social networks about their favorite CMS."
