Sherway Gardens Donates $40,726.88 to Sleeping Children Around the World

Feb. 21, 2013 - PRLog -- After the tremendous success of the 2012 award-winning Santa Experience, Sherway Gardens (Hwy 427 & the QEW) is pleased to present a cheque for $40,726.88 to Sleeping Children Around the World, a locally based charity that provides bedkits for needy children in developing countries, during a special presentation on Thursday, February 28 at 11:00am in Sherway Square. Andy Traynor, Sherway Gardens’ General Manager and Lisa Resnic, Sherway Gardens’ Senior Marketing Director will present Dave Dryden, chairman of Sleeping Children Around the World, with a cheque for $40,726.88 during this special photo opportunity.

“Since 2002, Sherway Gardens has proudly donated 100% of the proceeds from the Santa Experience to Sleeping Children Around the World,” states Andy Traynor, General Manager, Sherway Gardens. “To date, $245,551.88 has been raised through ticket sales for the Santa Experience which has gone toward helping over 5,000 children worldwide.”  

The Sherway Gardens Santa Experience is an entertaining and interactive play session that features singalongs, dancing and story reading where children share their wishes with Santa and pose for an informal picture.

“It’s great to think that a happy time such as Christmas, where our children our celebrating and having their pictures taken with Santa, can lead to many kids overseas getting bedkits,” states Dave Dryden, Chairman, Sleeping Children Around The World.  “As a result of Sherway Gardens’ support Sleeping Children Around The World has been able to provide approximately 6,000 bedkits to children in countries around the world including India, Kenya, the Philippines, Uganda, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Honduras and Bangladesh.”

Sleeping Children Around the World provides bedkits to children of any race and/or religion who will benefit the most; typically being located in underdeveloped and developing countries. No portion of a bedkit donation is spent on administration — 100% reaches a needy child. Each bedkit consists of a mat or mattress, pillow, sheet, blanket, mosquito net (if applicable), clothes outfit, towel and school supplies.
