Second annual Textile Design Competition announced for UK design students and graduates

Feb. 21, 2013 - PRLog -- Purvaai Pvt. Ltd., a creative textile design company, today announced its second annual textile design competition. The competition is open to student designers currently pursuing either a design degree or diploma in the United Kingdom and to recent graduates (those who have graduated in the last 3 years) from a UK-based design college or institute.

After an extremely well-received competition last year, Purvaai’s ‘Textile Design Competition 2013’ entails planning and designing a range of home linen or personal accessories based on the theme “Naturally Yours”.

The need of the hour is ethical and sustainable design. Designers are being offered the chance to take their pick from colours, textures, patterns and forms that nature has to offer to design a range of soft furnishings or personal accessories. Entries may include designs for cushions only, cushion and throw sets, cushion and curtain sets or personal accessories such as stoles or scarves.  

“We believe that young designers today are already motivated by the themes of conservation, preservation, respect for the environment and are inspired by the wealth of beauty in nature”, says Toolika Gupta, Creative Consultant and Competition Lead for Purvaai. “Even Pantone’s shade of the year is ‘Emerald’. This leads us to believe that our theme for the competition this year is very relevant to the times and will offer young designers a great opportunity to showcase their considerable talents” she adds.

Like last year, this year too, there are cash prizes worth £400 in total.

Sonali Deshpande, Co-founder and Director of Purvaai says “Last year we were very pleased to put into production the winning design. Chloe Hamill, the very talented winning designer of the 2012 competition, received credit for her designs in all our marketing and communication. Once again this year we hope to offer more young designers a platform to break onto the scene in a similar way.”

Applicants must register by completing the competition form, which may be downloaded from the website www.purvaai.co.uk. They must also submit a concept note of about 150 words. Competitors can send in detailed inspirational pictures and notes along with fabric choices with each design, if they so desire, however this is not mandatory.
