Typical fat reduction procedures, like liposuction, typically carry surgical risks and often carry significant post-treatment recovery downtime. Liposonix is non-surgical and non-invasive and patients typically can resume their normal routine and activities immediately after their procedure. Treatments are usually about an hour, and most patients visibly notice results after just one treatment.
The Liposonix System uses HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound energy) technology to non-invasively destroy targeted subcutaneous fat and deliver uniform and targeted results. In other fat reduction technologies, energy is highly absorbed or scattered near the skin surface—limiting penetration and delivering temporary results. HIFU technology allows energy to directly target fat tissue without harming skin or the surrounding tissues.
During the one-hour procedure, the treatment head of the Liposonix system is placed on the area to be treated. High-intensity ultrasound energy focuses on the targeted fat, destroying fat cells beneath the surface layers of the skin. A continuous lesion is created in the targeted fat and the skin layer is not harmed. The treated fat tissue is then removed through the body's natural healing and elimination process.
Raleigh Plastic Surgery Center’s Glenn Lyle, MD, says that Liposonix is ideal for anyone needing safe but effective help in losing those last few, stubborn inches that persist around the waistline.
“We’re delighted to be able to offer patients a fat reduction procedure that not only is safe, but provides immediate results in most patients,” says Dr. Lyle. “When dieting and exercise are no longer effective, and liposuction is too invasive of an option, then Liposonix is the perfect solution for people who just want to lose those last few inches around the waist.”
In a clinical study, the average waistline was reduced about one inch (equal to one dress or pant size) after a single Liposonix treatment. Patients can typically expect to see full results within 8 to 12 weeks after treatment. Dr. Lyle adds that although Liposonix is an effective alternative for those patients only needing to shed that last inch, it is not suitable for those individuals needing significant fat reduction. Ideal candidates for Liposonix should be able to “pinch-an-
