“On April 4, a day of deep reflection when Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was slain in 1968, we are reminded of how far we have come and how far we have yet to go,” says American Conference on Diversity President and CEO Elizabeth Williams-Riley. “As our organization celebrates 65 years of Defining Moments of Diversity throughout New Jersey during our 2013 State Dinner, we’re also recognizing those who have helped to champion our mission in workplaces, communities, and schools.”
Our 2013 honorees, including the recipient of our new Workplace Transformation Award, are:
►Corporate Humanitarian Award - NASCO, Inc. This integrated claims processor for BlueCross and BlueShield Plans across the country, including American Conference on Diversity’s longtime supporter Horizon BCBS of NJ, has demonstrated a sustained commitment to closing the healthcare disparities gap by bridging the payer gap. Not only has NASCO assembled and supported a strong, talented, and diverse workforce for more than 25 years, but the Atlanta-based company has helped support the American Conference on Diversity’s mission of valuing diversity, educating leaders, and promoting respect for nearly a decade. ►Humanitarian Award - John W. Greene, CLU®, ChFC®, Retired Senior Vice President, Prudential Financial. John Greene retired from Prudential in 2012 where he was responsible for the company’s national career distribution system for insurance and investments. Mr. Greene is being recognized for his efforts to drive diversity and inclusion throughout the organization. He is a past member of The American College Board of Trustees, and was active in both the General Agents and Managers Association and National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors during his career.
►NEW Workplace Transformation Award - Agency Distribution, The Prudential Insurance Company of America. Under the ongoing leadership of Caroline Feeney, President of Agency Distribution, The Prudential Insurance Company of America, diversity and inclusion continues to be a driver of success in the organization. Agency Distribution, representing more than 50 sales agencies across the country, recognizes the importance of education and awareness in creating a culture of inclusion. To that end, the organization is being recognized for the implementation of a robust training program on diversity and inclusion over the course of five years, reaching approximately 200 representatives in the field. This training along with a culture of accountability has helped move the needle. The following individuals will be accepting this award:
●Caroline Feeney, CLU® ChFC®, President, Agency Distribution, The Prudential Insurance Company of America. As the head of Agency Distribution at Prudential, and the first female to hold this position, Feeney is responsible for the national career distribution system comprised of approximately 2,600 financial professionals. Feeney is a member of the National Association for Female Executives Roundtable, The American College Board of Trustees, and also serves on the Executive Committee of the Board.
●Suzy Domenick, Vice President of Human Resources, Prudential Agency Distribution. Suzy Domenick leads a team of human-resources and employee-relations professionals who provide consulting support to the Agency Distribution organization. The team oversees talent management, diversity and inclusion, performance management, and succession planning. Domenick serves on the Board of Trustees for the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, N.J., and has been a mentor for Women Unlimited for more than a decade.
●Gale Britton, Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion, Prudential Agency Distribution. Gale Britton is responsible for the development, communication, and coordination of Agency Distribution’
"It is important that we continually educate all of our associates on the positive impact an inclusive workplace has on our business and culture,” said Feeney. “When everyone is treated with respect and dignity, and allowed to be authentic, we are all more productive and innovative.”
The American Conference on Diversity will debut our “Defining Moments of Diversity” video. This collection of heart-felt personal diversity stories submitted via social media and shot on location during our yearlong anniversary celebration events will encourage other organizations and individuals to commit to our mission of valuing diversity, educating leaders, and promoting respect.
