Six Dietary & Non-dietary Lifestyle Factors are Associated with the Development of Colorectal Polyp
By:

Feb. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- Researchers have identified six lifestyle factors, which are independently associated with the risk of colorectal polyps.  These risk factors are cigarette smoking, obesity, no regular use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, high intake of red meat, low intake of fiber, and low intake of calcium. The risk of colorectal polyps increased progressively with an increasing number of adverse lifestyle factors. Approximately, 6000 participants were included in the study. The risk of colorectal polyp and adenoma was higher (approximately 6 to 14 times) in participants with 5 or 6 risk factors as compared to 0 or 1 risk factor.
