According to this report, the 16-country region is dominated by Barilla with 18% of the 3-products market. The top-5 players account for 41% of the market beyond which there are a number of players with less than 4% of the market. The report provides in detail the market shares distribution in each product in each country. There is scope for consolidation, and of course positioning by segment matters.
Italy dominates the market with close to one third of the business, but competition is hugely intense there, perhaps better opportunities for development are to be found in the UK with just 8% of the market, and Spain with 5%. The fastest growing market though is Denmark, with above 6% annually in value terms.
Product-wise sauces and fresh pasta are growing at close to 3% per annum, outpacing and taking market share from dry pasta.
Perhaps surprisingly foodservice accounts for less than 20% of the aggregate market, however, this can easily explained looking at the percentages accounted by foodservice in each individual product and country.
