Land Rover has provided assistance throughout the training process to prepare the competitors for the Ultra Marathon. The automaker was happy to provide a 2013 Freelander 2 for use in the rugged backwoods areas that the team needed to get to in order to adequately test themselves in advance. The Freelander was capable of providing supplies and support in remote areas that are reminiscent of the Canadian Yukon where the race will take place.
The competition itself is a 300-mile trek across the Yukon, where temperatures are expected to be as low as -50 degrees. The team is preparing for a number of challenges, including, of course, traversing 300 freezing miles. A race of that length brings up other issues than simply endurance; the competitors will have to take into account body temperature, sleep deprivation, and nutrition in order to function at peak performance.
The proceeds from this fundraising effort will go to support kids who have been born to parents with AIDS or HIV. Phil Wall started the charity in 2010 after visiting an AIDS-ravaged community in Johannesburg;
